VOL XXI |
THE PYRAMID 56ERS OF MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE |
JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2012 |
A Message from the President It
is hard to believe another year has come and gone with so much happening to
everyone. I hope that 2012 brings you much joy, health and peace in the New
Year.
The past couple of months were the clubs busiest with us setting up TWO
displays this year, one at Kirby Pines and one at Wesley Meadows.
We received many compliments on both of the displays as we were setting
up and taking down and the residents really seemed to enjoy them.
It was great seeing how much joy it brought to them. We also had an
article with pictures written about us in the Kirby Pines Newsletter the “Pine
Cone”. We will have a copy at the
meeting for you to see. I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to Barbara and Gerald for
allowing us to store all of the display items at their home.
I want to thank the Colliers for opening up their home for our Annual
Christmas Party. Everyone had a great time as it was one of the first times some
of us had seen each other in a while.
I also want to thank Alinda for volunteering to start doing the
newsletter again. This will be a
great help. The newsletter takes a
lot of time and effort to pull all the information together. SO THANK YOU
ALINDA.
We will hold the February Meeting at the Gorby’s.
We will be electing club officers for the New Year.
If anyone is interested in running for a position please let Barbara or
me know before the meeting. If
anyone is interested in hosting a meeting this year please let us know so we can
plan them out.
February is also dues time. Please
bring your dues to the meeting. The dues are $20.00 per individual and $25.00
per couple.
I look forward to seeing everyone at Russ and Jayne’s.

For the Christmas Season 2011, the Pyramid 56er's set up village displays at Kirby Pines Retirement Community in Memphis, TN and at Wesley Meadows in Hernando, MS. The displays were designed as memorials to Lynn Billingsley and Jim Shull, two of our members who loved Christmas and were avid Department Fifty-Six collectors. All of the buildings and accessories for the displays were contributed by members of the club, family members of the deceased, or by Department 56. A club raffle provided money to cover other expenses.
This is the second year a display has been set up at Kirby Pines. The residents and their families were so receptive to The 2010 North Pole Display, that the club decided to do a 2011 Christmas in the City display there as well. The December Pinecone (resident newsletter at Kirby Pines) featured an article about the display. In the article Cheryl Grimes, Activities Director, stated "We are very fortunate to have the village display at Kirby Pines. It means a lot to our residents because they have something very unique that they can experience with their grandchildren and great grandchildren when they come to visit during the holidays."
The North Pole Display at Wesley Meadows was also a hit with the residents and their families. The displays were set up before Thanksgiving and taken down in Early January, so for a period of about six weeks, we were able to share the wonder and the love of the season with all who live in or visited the two locations.
